DECISION DAY INFORMATION
IT'S DECISION TIME FOR THE FOOTHILL EXTENSION
A Metro Board Action is expected to be announced for the County's Long Range Transportation Plan at the June 26th Board Meeting. The draft plan was released in March of this year for public review and comment. Unfortunately, the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension was within the “Strategic Unfunded” category of the plan and not the “Recommended Plan” list of budgeted projects. For the past two months, our message to the Metro Board has been, “Change the Plan; Include the Foothill Extension.”
DON'T BE MISTAKEN, YOU'VE ALREADY MADE AN IMPACT
During the 45-day Public Review Process, thousands of San Gabriel Valley citizens and stakeholders let Metro know how critical the Foothill Extension is to gridlock relief for both the San Gabriel Valley and all Los Angeles County residents. You also let Metro know the project is ready to go and plans are already in progress within your communities to bring public transit to the core of future municipal developments. More than 600 letters were sent to Metro saying “include the Foothill Extension within the Long Range Transportation Plan.” Over 5,000 “Save Our Gold Line” postcards were forwarded to Metro, and 2,350 petitions names were submitted to Metro through the “I Will Ride” student initiative campaign.
ON JUNE 26TH, IT'S “HOORAY” OR “NO WAY”
At this critical meeting, a revised Long Range Transportation Plan will be presented to the Metro Board for adoption which we anticipate will include amendments that will lead to securing funding towards construction and operation of the Foothill Extension. We invite you to be with us when this news is announced for an enthusiastic and long overdue “Hooray.” In the event that adoption of the Long Range Transportation Plan is delayed, or if the Foothill Extension Project remains unfunded, we will immediately begin a campaign and renewed strategy to tell Metro, “No Way.”
YOUR TICKET TO RIDE
Be our guest and ride with us on the Metro Gold Line to the Board Meeting on June 26th. Our train leaves from the Sierra Madre Villa Station (the current eastern terminus for the Metro Gold Line) at approximately 8:30 am, arriving at Union Station and the adjacent Metro Headquarters in ample time for the 9:30 am Board Meeting. (Metro Headquarters is located at: One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, 90012)
Parking is free at the Sierra Madre Villa Station Parking Structure in East Pasadena, but the lot fills up fast. Please plan to arrive by 7:30 to find a space. The entrance to the bridge that takes you across the freeway to the Station is on Level 4. Metro Gold Line representatives will be stationed there with your free ticket for the train. Busses will also be available at three regional locations to take participants to the Sierra Madre Villa Metro Gold Line Station. Pick-up sites are currently scheduled for La Verne , Glendora (Citrus College) and Monrovia. Go to www.foothillextension.org for exact locations and details. Return bus shuttles will leave from Metro Headquarters at these approximate times: 11:30 am immediately following the Metro Board Meeting, and 1:30 pm immediately following the Post-Meeting Gathering.
To accommodate project supporters who may not be able to stay with us for the entire morning, train “tokens” will be available from Gold Line Staff Representatives on the day of the meeting. These tokens allow you to return to the Sierra Madre Villa Station at any time. Please note however, that busses will not be available to transport participants to satellite bus shuttle locations from the Sierra Madre Station (these busses leave from MTA Headquarters only). Therefore, if you think you may need to leave early, we recommend that you park at the Sierra Madre Villa Station Parking Structure.
LET'S GATHER FOR THE NEXT STEPS
A “Post-Meeting Gathering” for project supporters will be held immediately following the Metro Board Meeting in the patio area of Traxx Restaurant within historic Union Station. A light lunch will be served. At this time, the Construction Authority will share plans forward for the project. Participants are expected to return to their bus shuttle locations no later than 2:30 pm.
